Great Group. I would suggest inclusion of Washington D.C. in the conversation. Many people from the greater D.C. area weekend regularly at Nemacolin Woodlands. It serves as an alternative get away for many. The fear of local Pittsburgh officials of the southern expressway is misguided. Should the road to nowhere ever be completed, that would take an entire 1 hour off driving time between the cities. Lowering it to three hours. This makes long weekends quite possible on both ends. Not to say a weekend in Buffalo or Cleveland wouldn't be fun, but you might be limiting your audience Pittsburgh.

We've been blogging, vlogging and promoting Pittsburgh and lawrenceville in particular for years and have developed quite a large audience of readers and viewers of our live and pre-recorded vlogs. Many people want to know more about Pittsburgh.
So it's the spirit of the thing as always. Complaining about the status quo has been the only constant in Pittsburgh. It's time to take a leap into a different process. More along the blue sky process. 20 years ago the circus was dead in America. Today the biggest name in entertainment is Cirque du soleill. Its that kind of bluesky thinking applied to that tired old 3 ring clowns and elephants show that applies to most new success stories. So it's more about just building it from nothing. The blank slate to start with is a real plus.
Pittsburgh's art scene is quite frankly outrageously large. Both above and underground. Also it's home to more small business both old and new than most cities.
So, its ok to cheerlead but its more about the spirit of the thing that gets the change going. It seems to be working pretty well for D.C. newest resident to be. I would say rustbelt=George Bush, so time to start with a blank slate. It's about how Pittsburgh's professional youth choose to comport themselves on a global stage. The world is ready to arrive particularly China and India, are we ready for them? Lots of inroads are being made. I think the people who leave Pittsburgh at this point are much like those who sell their stock investments when after they crash, big mistake. Our fortunes are about to change.

Hi - I am a recent grad of city planning and just moved to Detroit this summer, to work for an environmental justice nonprofit. I got excited about revitalizing post-industrial cities through a class in grad school... and heard about GLUE from my old high school physics teacher... and now that I've finally read about what GLUE is, am so thrilled that something like this exists!

The Great Lakes Town Hall is based out of Madison, Wisconsin. It is an online forum for residents all over the Great Lakes region to come together, read and respond to daily and weekly essays, vote in opinion polls, post announcements and more.

The Town Hall is unique in that it's almost entirely user-driven. There is a new guest writer each week from a Great Lakes community, organization, or agency. The users can respond to essays and carry out a discussion or conversation. They are able to voice their opinions and generate new ideas with their fellow users.

To learn more about the Great Lakes Town Hall, visit www.greatlakestownhall.org . Anyone, whether they live in the Great Lakes basin or not, is always welcome to register and join in on the discussion!

Wish I could have caught this one, but I'm still a a few hundred miles away. :-/

Pittsburgh is still pretty racially/economically segregated, affordable for only certain groups

It's always seemed fairly racially segregated, but economically segregated? 2-3BR houses rent for $500-750/month, which seems the all-time-deal from my point of view (in a larger east coast city).

If you're avoiding Shadyside and a few other islands of high-priced-rent, Pittsburgh seems to be an enormous amount of amenities provided at a very low cost of living.
